Collage, Colour, Composition and
Non-composition will be run by NAS painting lecturers Susan Andrews, Andrew Donaldson and David Serisier on Cockatoo Island.
The project will use colour and collage to
explore pictorial issues in response to the island. During the four days at Cockatoo Island,
students will be asked to search the island for compositions that are
already-made. They must have a dominant two-dimensional frontality. They could
have their origins in concrete structures such as architecture, and or,
transcendent phenomena including shadows or light. Each already-made composition will have its
own individual needs for colour, whether readymade or found. Each already-made
composition will need either a detached quiet voice or a polyphonic voice that
is necessary to present the intention of an individual interpretation.
Issues of scale can be addressed in the
initial collage or through a generationally serial approach.
